Your name and role in the Steeplechasers. Sue Searcy. I am the Training Committee Co-chair and a Steeps coach.
How long have you been a member? How long have you been in this role? I have been a Steeps member since 2019. I have been in the training co-chair role for about a year now, and [I] have been a Steeps coach for a few years.

Are you training for anything in particular right now? Having to go back into the office full time this year and a 4-hour commute has hampered my training. Hoping next year to undertake marathon training and to be brave enough to sign up for my first marathon. For now, [I’m] focusing on training for [a] 10 miler.
Do you have any running partners? I get the advantage of training and running with many different Steeps runners. Supporting our training programs I get to run with some of the club’s best. Each week I find different folks to run with. As it cools down I run with my furry four legged trainer Dasher. He is very strict and doesn’t like it when I socialize too much on my runs.

Tell us a little bit about your role in the Steeplechasers. As part of the training committee, I support our coaches and runners for all the training programs the club offers. We ensure our runners have a great experience training as a group.
What’s your favorite part about it? My favorite part is getting to learn from our amazing coaches. We get to support runners starting out or coming back after a break and get to enjoy watching them progress. Being on a training run with a good group of runners is encouraging and inspiring.

If you could impart one piece of wisdom to the Steeps, what would it be? Never be afraid to show up and try.
