Frederick, MD [October 2, 2025] — The Frederick Summer Solstice 8K, held in Walkersville, Maryland, brought together runners, supporters, and volunteers for a combined evening of fun and philanthropy on Saturday, June 14. Hosted by the Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club (FSRC), the event featured an 8K race and a 1-mile fun run/walk, garnering a strong turnout and delivering a meaningful impact on the community.

With 376 runners, dozens of volunteers, and a strong force of supporters, the race raised $12,790.77 in net proceeds, all benefiting the Frederick Chapter of Blessings in a Backpack—an organization that mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for school-aged children across America who might otherwise go hungry.
“Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Summer Solstice 8K this year was especially meaningful,” Race Director Harriet Langlois said. “There’s something truly special about gathering on a summer evening to run, connect, and give back. Like all Steeplechasers races, this has always been about more than just miles—it’s about community and making a difference together.”
Since its inaugural race in 2016, the Frederick Summer Solstice 8K has contributed a total of $192,058 to the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
“We are truly honored that the Frederick Steeplechasers have once again selected the Frederick Chapter of Blessings in a Backpack as the beneficiary of this event,” Victoria McCarthy, Fundraising Operations Coordinator for Blessings in a Backpack, commented. “Their continued generosity and steadfast support of our mission have helped us provide weekend meals to nearly 3,500 students across 30 schools in Frederick County during this school year alone. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the FSRC, race sponsors, participants, and supporters; your dedication makes a real difference in the lives of the children we serve.”
In addition to its fundraising success, several FSRC members celebrated standout performances:
- Female Overall Winners:
- 1st Place: Erin Snyder, 27
- 2nd Place: Mariah Donovan, 32
- Male Overall Winners:
- 1st Place: Daveen Bavari, 24
